You never know what type of emergency/disaster will strike, or when it will hit.
At a minimum every person should have a 72 hour survival kit. If the emergency is of longer duration and if there is no organized authority to help, you need to rely on yourself and if possible friends and neighbors. Remember Hurricane Katrina?
