"Notes & Quotes"

Welcome to The Survivors Marketplace.com. This spot is the place where I am going to share some thoughts with you on a regular basis. I'll be posting things like quotes from our Founding Fathers and others. Some of these quotes will be from quite unsavory folks. I'll jot down some thoughts of my own and then open it up for discussion.

The reason for this forum is that I am very concerned with the direction that we are moving as a nation and republic. I am not a professional writer, nor am I a great survivalist. I am just a middle age, overweight, husband, father, business owner, Vietnam veteran, and have decided that I am going to take a stand for Family, God, Liberty, Smaller government, and good old common sense.

Here, we'll start with this quote from Benjamin Franklin. "They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Are we giving up some of our essential liberties to buy us some comfort or peace of mind?  It seems so to me. Indoctrination of our children, political correctness, socialism of our businesses, universal health care, redistribution of wealth, elimination of God in public places, encroachment on our 1st and 2nd amendment rights, and the list goes on...

Or, how about this quote?   "How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think. "  This little tidbit of wisdom was given to us by Adolph Hitler. Never was there a more despicable representative of the human race than this piece of trash. But in this instance he speaks the truth. We have become complacent and lulled into a stupor. We need to wake up as a nation and rethink the directions we are letting ourselves be led.

Do I have the answers? No. I do know that sitting on my couch eating chips and watching the drivel that is being fed us by the tv networks hasn't been working too well. So, a few months ago my wife and I decided to get involved. Now this wasn't an easy decision. We were just getting comfortable in our middle age and lazy to boot. But, watching the 2008 presidential elections and the horrible choices we had between Obama and McCain made us realize, "My God, what is becoming of us?"

So, we have made our signs and have attended several "Tea Parties", written our representatives, started this website, and decided that we're just not going to sit still and watch our country be transformed into something we no longer recognize and do nothing about it. Can we make a difference? Maybe. I can feel a slow burn happening with Middle America.  Some of this anger was evidenced in the elections for governors of Virginia and New Jersey.  And more recently the huge upset vote in Massachusetts where Scott Brown, a relative unknown beat the Democrat machine in Mass.
In February this year I had the honor to attend the first National TeaParty Convention in Nashvill Tn.  It was great knowing we shared the same values as many, many others.  It's funny, I didn't meet one racist, bomb throwing, right wing nut case in the whole lot.  Just regular patriotic Americans wanting to live their lives without the Federal Government dictating every aspect of our lives.  Limited Government, adherence to the Constitution and the values of our Founding Fathers is what we demand. That’s all. We can make a big difference this coming November.  Let me warn you though, we cannot stay on the sidelines and allow what Ben Franklin warned us about, to happen. We either get involved, or accept the fact that our "little experience in democracy" is dead. This, we will not do. It is time to take a stand.

God Bless, and until next time...
Walter
